Importing GPX

Postby rwheller » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:56 pm

Hi,

I've recently purchased OS24 for RouteBuddy Atlas and am trying to import a gpx file of a route i've exported from MemoryMap. This however doesn't seem to be working... I have followed the instructions on your website but the route isn't appearing. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Hi Richard,

In RouteBuddy Atlas 1.3.1 you an import .gpx and .kml Waypoint files onto Atlas running on your iPhone, as per the image below showing Geocaches loaded:

In RouteBuddy Atlas 1.4 (currently in beta testing) you'll be able to add Routes, as per the image below:

I can't give a timeline at the moment (we always hope for 'soon') because we are also adding other features into 1.4.

By all means send a sample file to support (zipped) and we can confirm it works OK for you.

Hi Neil,
I'm also having some problems and wanted to check that my files are ok.
I have created my route in Memory Map and then save it out as a GPX file. When I copy to RB Atlas on my Iphone, the file shows an extension, 'imported' as per your image. Is this normal? I initially had this problem when I was playing around with KML files until I found out that the KML file I was creating was not recognised in RB Atlas. Could this be the issue for my GPX file?

cheers

I wouldn't think so; File import issues are usually caused when the file type changes specification (and we then change to support it) or if it's a non industry-standard file.

Could you send copies of both files to us, zipped, to support@RouteBuddy.com and we can advise once we've taken a look at the file structure.

Hi Neil, thanks for your reply.

I've realised what my problem is after playing around with the GPX file and also from re-reading your first post. It seems that RB doesnt support GPX routes just yet, which is what I was trying to import. I created a GPX file using just marks and this displays correctly in RB atlas.
I'm looking forward to version 1.4 where hopefully I can import routes.

many thanks

Hi Eddy,

Have just replied to you via support and now I come into the forum I see you have answered some of these questions yourself!
As Neil says, more detailed gpx support will not be until Atlas 1.4 but I think you may be able to copy it into Atlas as a kml file which I have sent to you to try out.

Regards

You can, but tracks are (invariably) full of many points and may need editing first.
